Cockroaches are persistent pests and they often infest the kitchen, bathroom, and other living spaces as they search for food. Once they have infested an area, they can multiply quickly posing a threat to the comfort and health of the house occupants.
Roaches are known to carry bacteria that result in food poisoning, diarrhea, allergies, and skin rashes. In large numbers, the roaches can produce a foul odor.
There are different types of Cockroaches which include the American cockroach, the German cockroach, the brown banded cockroach, Oriental cockroach, and the smoky brown cockroach. The two types of Cockroaches common in households include the German roaches and American roaches which are eliminated using different techniques.
Cockroaches are nocturnal animals, which means you may not see them until there is a serious infestation. Cockroaches that appear during the day have been pushed out of the available hiding places by other cockroaches.
However, besides live roaches, there are other signs you can look out for to identify an infestation. These signs include cockroach droppings which will resemble pepper or coffee grounds, the bodies of dead Cockroaches, oval-shaped egg casings, and an oily or musty odor in your kitchen, bathroom, or other areas of your home.
How to Get Rid of Heavy Roach Manifestation.
The following are ways on how to get rid of roach infestation.
 Identify the Type of Cockroach.
The first step in eliminating roaches is to identify the type of cockroach by looking at their sizes and comparing their physical features and habitat. The measurement of German cockroaches is approximately 13mm to 16mm long colored pale brown and behind are 2 dark brown stripes. The head German cockroaches are mostly found throughout structures but they show a preference for warm and humid places. The German cockroaches are usually found in kitchens and secondarily in bathrooms, but infestations often occur in rooms where people eat and drink.
On the other hand, American cockroaches are reddish-brown or brown and around the shield behind the head are light yellow bands. Both male and female American species have wings and can fly short distances. American cockroaches are often found in sewers and basements, particularly around pipes and drains.
 Identify the Problem Areas
Identify cockroach infection sites using flashlights to search for their hiding spots which may include refrigerators, under the sink, crevices in cabinets and shelves, closet door corners and bathroom cabinets, and closets.
Use cockroach glue strips to locate areas that have large infestations, then based on your flashlight inspection, decide on the most strategic areas to place the glue strips. Monitor those areas for a few days or a few weeks. The cockroach’s strips that will catch the most cockroaches are those in the high-traffic cockroach areas will and those areas will need the most treatment.
Proper Sanitation.
Proper sanitation is key in the fight against control manifestation. Cut off the Cockroaches from their food supply by cleaning spilled or leftover food in open areas for example counters, floors, drawers, cupboards, walls, stove vents, stovetops, around the stove and around the refrigerator. Do not leave any dishes on the counter or in the sink and checking behind cabinets and appliances. Store garbage in a bin with a tight-fitting lid and take it out thoroughly.
Leave Out Cockroach Bait and Traps.
You can also leave out baits while cleaning and sanitizing the house. Mix boric acid with a little bit of sugar. The sugar lures the cockroaches while the boric acid kills them.
Sprinkle the mixture under and behind the refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher, under the sink, and into cracks along the edges of cabinets and pantries. If the roaches eat the bait, put more out but if they do not eat the bait then try another type of bait because cockroach population do develop bait aversion.
Reapply the bait every two to three weeks or when the placements appear to be gone. Continue to place bait until all roaches have been killed. Clean up thoroughly, sucking up all dead cockroaches and their eggs.
Even if all adult cockroaches are successfully killed with the baiting treatment, a new cockroach infestation may appear once the hidden cockroach egg capsules are hatched. Any successful cockroach treatment must include an insect growth regulator acts as “birth control” for the roaches hence keep the roach populations under control by preventing current and future infestations from reproducing. You can also set up sticky traps.
Apply A Recommended Insecticide on the Affected Areas.
Select an insecticide for cockroaches, then measure and mix according to the product label. Apply along baseboards, in cracks and crevices, under appliances, around door and window frames, where utility pipes and cables enter the building. Avoid spraying in the exact areas where you have placed baits as this will contaminate the bait, causing the roaches to avoid it. Reapply insecticide sprays according to the time period given on the product label.
Eliminate Any or All Roach Hiding Places.
Roaches need harborage to thrive which will be eliminated by cleaning up any clutter and recycle any materials lying around, seal any cracks and install door sweeps, regularly inspect and fix any plumbing issues or leaks.
You should regularly inspect the faucets, sinks, refrigerators, and appliances in your home to make sure they aren’t leaking or producing excess moisture since moisture is a huge attractant for cockroaches because they need water in order to survive.
Seal Up Any Potential Entry Points.
Seal up any or all potential entry points by sealing up gaps between the interior and the outdoors with materials like steel wood, door guards and clear caulk to prevent more roach infestation. Inspect deliveries, groceries, and old furniture before bringing them indoors since they act as hiding spots for roaches.
Lastly, clean thoroughly, paint walls, make repairs, caulk cracks and crevices, and replace any fixtures or appliances to prevent future infestation.
Final say
If these steps do not eliminate the cockroach infestation and want to get rid of cockroaches, then you should try contacting a natural pest control company.
